Rope Construction: Double Braid Polyester

A double braid rope refers to a braided rope cover over a braided rope core. Basically, it is a rope over another rope. These ropes are often flexible and easy to handle. Most double braid ropes are spliceable. Double braid rope is often called yacht braid and can be made with combinations of fibers or the same fibers. To get a stiffer or firmer double braid rope, the cover can be braided tighter which increases its “hardness.”

**This rope is a firm rope and very difficult if not impossible to splice.  It is a braided rope over another braided rope, however it has a tighter braid in the cover to stiffen the rope.  This is a great rope.  Although it is tighter and stiffer than most double braids, it is not as stiff as halter cords. Previously called 12 Pick.

Rope Fibers:  Polyester over Polyester

Due to its strength, low stretch, excellent sunlight resistance, and excellent abrasion resistance properties, polyester is a preferred fiber for many natural horse trainers.

Application:

Horse Rope Halters

General Purpose Rope

Firm double-braid polyester 1/4" is great for horse halters

Posted by Lauri Malone AKA Tillie of Tillie's Tie-Ups on 4th Dec 2015

It's thin enough to fit under a bridle without much bulk, but firm enough to keep its shape. That makes it easier to put on the horse because the noseband stays open. Knots up easily, too, and seems to 'hold' the knots.

    Really a great rope

While I find this rope a challenge to work with, my clients love it. :) It does make good halters.

    Great line!

This is really good line and exactly what I needed for my project. It is stiff yet easy to handle, has almost no stretch even when wet, and promises the durability I need.

As good as the famous Aussie trainer who sells his halters for $39.99!

I really love the stiff rope halters. As a trainer, I find them helpful in getting the horse's attention on you. You can't train if you don't have the horse's attention....same as with teaching kids. Kids and horses can't learn if they are not listening!

    Great halter cord

Posted by Marshall on 13th Jan 2014

This halter cord is firm just as advertised and I personally wouldn't go for anything softer. I'm new to the horse world and newer still to making halters but I much prefer working with the proper materials as opposed to standard hardware rope. I've already ordered more than two hundred feet of this type, its good stuff. Recommended.
