When we splice in house we usually go down a fid size.  By doing this it makes splicing a bit easier.

Fids

Samson Tubular fids are available in a variety of sizes depending on the rope type and diameter you're splicing.  

Pushers

Helpful for extracting cores or pushing fids through the rope.

    This is a inexpensive, well made fid. The fid is stiff enough that it does not bend when splicing rope.
